Retina Consultants of Minnesota provides advanced retinal care to area residents. The footprint of this clinic is smaller than the other clinics of the same brand. Therefore, BDH worked closely with the client to right size the exam rooms and fit all requirements within the space. The thoughtfully designed space plan accommodates two doctors, which yields a faster turnaround time with patients and generates a higher ROI. Although this clinic is 10% smaller than the Duluth clinic, both clinics contain the same amount of exam rooms, and the level of efficiency is comparable. As a result, the client is considering using the standard room sizes employed at the St. Louis Park clinic as their new standard.
The design team was also purposeful with the finish selection, wayfinding elements, and utilization of natural light. The timeless color palette and combination of materials create a soothing environment for patients. The dark blue band of carpet and lighted ceiling feature lead patients towards the lobby and exit, which is crucial when eyesight may be compromised following procedures. It was essential to avoid windows in the exam rooms so the staff and patients benefit from the natural light at the nurses’ station, lobby, and sub-wait area.
