M Health Fairview – River Falls was relocated and expanded to provide area residents with convenient access to primary care and 11 specialties. Since patients receive substantial healing benefits when exposed to principles of biophilia, incorporating natural elements into the built environment was a huge aspect of the design concept. The large murals connect patients with nature around every corner, and the planter and stone fireplace in the lobby bring natural elements indoors. Numerous windows were also added to the staff areas to boost productivity and energy levels through access to natural light. The clinic was strategically designed to separate care teams into four pods that each contain nine exam rooms, a nursing station, and offices for the practitioners. The proximal placement of the care team members supports effective communication and optimizes workflow. The pods are differentiated by carpet color and accent walls that coordinate with the nearby murals to promote patient wayfinding.
