Associated Vitreoretinal & Uveitis Consultants (AV&U) located in Carmel, Indiana, required a new 25,000-square-foot space to accommodate their expanding needs. BDH collaborated closely with the client to create a space that seamlessly integrates exam and screening rooms, a government-funded research study area, and administrative offices. The attentively designed space plan ensures a smooth flow from the main lobby check-in, through sub-wait areas, to exam and screening rooms, enhancing security, controlled access, and emergency response.
The design team aimed to modernize the existing aesthetic while maintaining a home-like environment. A timeless color palette with rich wood tones, oranges, and greens creates a comfortable atmosphere for patients. Wayfinding elements were crucial, with each corridor color-coded and flooring laid directionally to aid navigation through the clinic. The design team meticulously detailed each exam room’s layout, millwork, and lighting to perfect efficient eye exams. Despite remote collaboration during the design phases, the team was intentional in presenting the visual elements, leading to a successful outcome.
